Kolkata's NSCBI Airport marks 100 years, to unveil UDAN Yatri Café on 21st Dec

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBI), Kolkata, has launched several initiatives aimed at enhancing the passenger experience. The most prominent of these is the "UDAN Yatri Café," designed to provide affordable, high-quality food options for passengers. The café is part of a larger effort to make air travel more accessible, particularly for budget-conscious travelers. This initiative is supported by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and is seen as a pilot project with plans to expand in the future.

In addition to the café, NSCBI Airport has announced the release of a commemorative stamp and coin to mark its contributions to Indian aviation. The stamp and coin will be distributed as part of the airport's legacy, celebrating its pivotal role in connecting eastern India with the rest of the country and the world. The airport will also release a coffee table book that highlights the integration of India’s cultural heritage with modern airport architecture, showcasing the design evolution of NSCBI Airport over the years.

NSCBI Airport spans 1,566.3 acres with a built-up area of 2,30,000 square meters, capable of handling 26 million passengers annually. The airport serves 49 domestic destinations and 15 international destinations, connecting Kolkata to major cities within India and around the world. It is a key hub for air travel in eastern India, serving as a gateway for passengers traveling to and from the region. The airport's modern infrastructure, including its New Integrated Terminal, was inaugurated in 2013 to meet growing demands.

The airport’s role extends beyond passenger service, with its state-of-the-art cargo terminal playing a vital part in economic activities. The cargo terminal at NSCBI Airport supports air freight services that connect eastern India to global markets. The terminal facilitates the movement of goods, including perishables, pharmaceuticals, and industrial products, contributing significantly to the region's economy. This cargo infrastructure ensures quick and efficient processing of air shipments, making the airport a central hub for logistics in eastern India.

The UDAN Yatri Café is aimed at enhancing passenger convenience by providing affordable food options. It will cater to a wide range of travelers, offering meals at a reasonable cost compared to the often expensive outlets in airports. The introduction of this café aligns with the government’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme, which aims to make air travel more affordable and accessible to the general population. The café will also feature a variety of food items, focusing on both local and international cuisines.

NSCBI Airport’s expansion plans also include continuous improvements to its passenger facilities, cargo infrastructure, and overall service offerings. These initiatives reflect the airport’s ongoing efforts to improve the travel experience, both for domestic and international passengers. As a major aviation gateway, NSCBI Airport is set to continue its growth and evolution, strengthening its position as a key player in India’s aviation sector and facilitating millions of journeys annually.
